Brainspotting

“Where you look affects how you feel.” —David Grand, PhD

“Unlike traditional talk therapy, Brainspotting allows you to heal during your session.” —Amy M. Enkling, MA, LMHC, BSP

“My sessions with Amy were quite the experience. Every session was different from the last (in a great way), and more powerful than I expected. Amy provided the right environment for me to speak freely and comfortably. Coupled with Brainspotting, I strongly believe it all helped me significantly.” *

SO, WHAT IS BRAINSPOTTING, AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME?

Founded by EMDR trauma psychologist David Grand, Brainspotting is a type of therapy that uses sound and focused eye movements to release unhealthy patterns, behaviors, trauma and pain. In short, Brainspotting helps you heal. The healing occurs almost immediately in sessions with me as I “hold space” for you to begin to look at and release things that have happened in your life. It is a neurological process that helps you loosen and let go of things you have been holding onto, either knowingly or unknowingly. Those “rocks in your backpack” that you have been carrying may be manifesting as  feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, low self-worth, suffering relationships, decreased performance or focus, or body image concerns. Brainspotting therapy addresses anything unresolved that continues to bother you.  What you’ve been holding onto also affects the way you respond to things that trigger the original pain you experienced—which is where brainspotting therapy does it’s work.  We get to the root of what’s going on for you. It’s preface is the brain/body/mind connection. Interrelated physical pain or body tension can also be released. We will be able to bring out what has been holding you back from living your best life possible. Once you are able to purge these things out, you will find yourself finally able to let go of what’s been affecting you and your relationships.

Brainspotting  is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions.  Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to  anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical  emotional and body-based parts of the brain.
